This week, I cut out a bunch of clip art and made a "Sleep Rules" poster for Mathew. We had one for Sophie and Ellie and it really seemed to work. Mathew seemed to enjoy and understand the discussion. The first night was awesome..he stayed in bed, didn't call out a million times, etc. Day 2 however, I was telling Matt how wonderfully the poster was working...thinking Mathew was asleep.... when we heard little noises coming from the hallway. He had been very busy and had emptied a ton of stuff out of his room and was dragging everything right outside his door (maybe building a fortress?). Anyway, not sure if this photo totally captures the destruction in his path, but you get the idea.
We had a pretty big wind storm mid-week and it blew tons more lemons off of the tress. I spent a few hours sorting them, realizing that most of last week's batch was rotting already. On Friday we tried doing the lemonade stand thing--except I thought more parents would be interested in buying just lemons--to entice the kids, we decided to offer a free tatoo if you bought a dollar worth of lemons.

We live across from the school so we do get quite a bit of foot traffic but the down side is most people have lemons coming out of their ears right now. We did get 4 customers and it was cute to see Ellie be a salesman. She was calling out to everyone that passed by and would often get scared half way through the sentence. Ellie made a really cute sign that said Lemons..you can't tell in the picture, but the S is backwards. Mathew couldn't figure out what was going on. Every time Ellie would yell out "do you want to buy lemons?", Mathew would say, "No Ellie, they don't want any lemons!" ...he was getting so frustrated that she wasn't listening to him. Then Mathew wanted to play with the money and an all-out brawl broke out in public between Ellie and Mathew.

On Saturday, we took Ellie, Sophie and Mathew to get their hair cut. I've always cut Mathew's hair and I was feeling guilty that it looked a little crooked last time, so I thought I'd watch a professional do it to see what I was doing wrong. Mathew was petrified and sat more still that I ever thought possible. I commented that Mathew was being really good for the beautician and she bragged that she was "really good with kids". I had to laugh because, by the look on Mathew's face, I think he thought he was going to die. I didn't try to burst her bubble though.
Anyway, her cut was way more crooked than mine-- and Mathew doesn't even stay still for me-- so I'm just going to do it myself next time.
